At the centre of Tollygrunge Noir by Tollylab lies Eastman 5222 Double-X, Kodak’s classic black-and-white cine stock from 1959. Still produced in its original formula, Double-X gives deep contrast, dramatic grain, and cinematic tonality — the same aesthetic seen in films like Schindler’s List and Raging Bull.
Repacked as part of the Tollygrunge series — India’s first branded repackaged films — each roll is hand-rolled and sealed in a retro aluminium container, marrying vintage character with careful Indian craftsmanship. Ideal for portraits, street, and fine-art monochrome work.
At Tollylab, every black & white roll is developed in custom-blended chemistry formulated in-house to match the character of each emulsion — whether it’s the deep contrast of Double-X or the soft tones of Kodak 2238.
Once processed, each frame is scanned on our Fuji Frontier system, not a flatbed — a machine painstakingly maintained for its unmatched tonal accuracy and classic film rendering. This combination of tailored chemistry and Frontier scanning ensures depth, balance, and that unmistakable analog texture in every scan.
